About
Norwegian artist, composer and producer Signe Dø (Signe Danielsen Øgrim) explores the intersection of artpop, electroacoustic music and traditional singer/songwriting; through soaring vocal melodies, ambient textures and field recordings. Her debut album «Gi Meg Månen» was released February 9th on Norwegian indie label Koke Plate. Signe Dø has done commissioned work for theatre, installation and dance, as well as contributed to releases and as a live musician for other artists.
«Gi Meg Månen» was highly received by outlets such as Dagsavisen, Subjekt, VG, Natt&Dag, Universitas and Analogue Trash, and was reviewed 6/6 by GAFFA: “Genuine, Eclectic and Aesthetic”. Following the release, Dø played at several Norwegian venues and festivals, including Øyafestivalen and by:Larm. At the latter, she received by:Larm’s NOPA-grant, awarded "to emerging songwriters who are poised to shape the future of Norwegian music."
«On the record, I've worked on blending an electronic and electroacoustic tradition with traditional songwriting and pop. I've attempted to push the boundaries in both directions without losing their connection, exploring the possibilities that arise when these two worlds meet. I wanted to mix instruments such as cello, clarinet, voice, and saxophone in their traditional forms with versions sampled and tweaked beyond recognition alongside many layers of electronics and synthetic sounds. I hope the music in the end breathes, even though it sits in the digital realm. The surreal and the natural merge seamlessly, and at times, I lose track of what is what.»

"A melodic plummeting into an art-pop material that takes both courage and audacity to master." - Dagsavisen
“..a gliding escape through musical possibilities, with double and triple layers of interest.”
“Signe Danielsen Øgrim creates ethereal guitar revelations with vocals that nod to both the best of Swedish pop from the turn of the millennium. A dream to listen to, and at the same time, a musical experience that is as contradictory as the song's almost Gunvor Hofmo-esque title.”
— VG
“Everything is present, but still at a distance, when the elements gently touch each other, and Signe Dø witnesses it all through her vocals”— Natt&Dag
“Signe Dø has an unbeatable vulnerable tone that makes the hairs on your arms stand on end.”
— Gaffa
"A particular highlight comes midway through the set with the song "Fyfaen", where vocalist Signe Øgrim sings: "there are so many sick things at stake, but I think I can do it" in a voice that sounds both anemic and magical as it continues to yearn for brighter tones."
"The floating, ever-changing and at the same time heavy atmosphere in the music gives the impression of an artist who does not write to satisfy the expectations of others, but who creates from the heart and is confident in her own artistic expression."
"Both the magnificent and the delicate moments of the concert were endlessly intense. The broken vocals on "Disappear" crescendoed in a thunderous, redemptive drum solo, while Signe Dø's vocals were allowed to stand alone on "Fy Faen" in all its lonely beauty - my eyes watered a little."
